Pharma Technology
Corporate Acquisition
Using M&A to add capabilities rather than simply add scale.
// THE SITUATION
A pharmaceutical manufacturing company was looking to expand its capabilities through acquisition. The objective was not simply to buy another company, but to identify assets that could strengthen the broader platform and advance its strategic direction. The organization wanted to add a technology capability to strengthen its value proposition with customers.
// THE CHALLENGE
The universe of potential targets was broad, and strategic fit mattered more than transaction volume. The company needed to define which capabilities were most valuable, where those capabilities could be found, and which targets could create the strongest combination with the existing business – at an economically viable price.
// OUR ROLE
Realize helped shape the acquisition strategy, translate strategic priorities into target criteria, identify relevant companies, and evaluate how potential acquisitions could fit within the broader organization. The work focused on finding combinations where the strategic value of the combined businesses could exceed the value of the individual parts.
// WHERE IT LED
The process created a more focused acquisition roadmap, technology add-on value proposition, and a targeted set of opportunities aligned with the company’s strategic objectives.
